Boy, it’s been awhile hasn’t it? With the rush of real life, I have not been able to work on Kaiju Kompendium as much as planned to recently. Thankfully, I have something truly wonderful to share with you today.
Last year, a Twitter mutual of mine, Moj messaged me with the discovery of an unmade Ultraman Dyna episode known as The Musician’s Forest, written by Ai Oota. The episode was supposed to be directed by Akio Jissoji, but it was never produced, with the episode The Light and Shadow of Youthful taking it’s place. Thankfully, Moj managed to buy a copy of the script and commission XIG Fansubs to translate this unmade and obscure piece of Ultraman history and Moj has asked me to host it here. Having read the script myself, it has a very unnerving quality with some great set pieces, I would have loved to have seen it been produced. The script references several operatic pieces, including Rinaldo, HWV 7, Act I Scene 7: Cara sposa, amante cara, which I recommend playing while you listen to this for the full experience.
Here is the full script with the option to download it. Moj also got XIG to translate a Monthly Hobby Japan interview with Jissoji circa 1997 where he discusses his Heisei era Ultraman output. Again, I cannot stress how thankful I am for Moj and XIG for making this available to the English-speaking fandom!
